Biography

Michael J. Epstein, M.D., serves as professor for the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, chief of the Hand and Upper Extremity Section, and director of the college's Orthopedic Hand Fellowship Program. A board-certified orthopedic surgeon with subspecialty certification in surgery of the hand, Dr. Epstein specializes in hand surgery for acute injuries, reconstructive hand surgery, and surgical reconstruction of the rheumatoid hand.

He earned his medical degree from State University of New York Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, followed by a surgical internship at St. Luke's Hospital Center in New York. He completed a residency in general surgery at Baylor College of Medicine and a residency in orthopedic surgery at the Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York. Dr. Epstein completed a one-year fellowship in hand surgery, spending part of the year at University Hospital, Hand Unit, in Lund, Sweden, and the remainder at Derbyshire Royal Infirmary in England.

His professional memberships include the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Society for Surgery of the Hand, American College of Surgeons, Texas Medical Association, Houston Orthopaedic Society and Houston Surgical Society.
