BCM cycling team raises funds, awareness for breast cancer research

Tour de Pink, a cycling event benefiting breast cancer research, took place Sunday, Sept. 13, in Prairie View, Texas. The 64-member BCM team was the largest team again this year and one of the top fundraisers for the 2009 Tour. The team included BCM staff, faculty, family and friends who rode one of the 12-, 23-, 47-, 63-, 80- and 100-mile routes. Equally important were the volunteers who manned the BCM tent at the start. The tent spotlighted the Dan L. Duncan Cancer Center and the Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center. Volunteers also staffed one of the "pit stops," where they provided riders with water, sports drinks and goodies. The BCM team so far has raised $11,649.66 for the Pink Ribbons Project, which supports breast cancer education and awareness programs and provides breast cancer screening for the medically underserved.
