Faculty Kudos

BCM Genetic Counseling: The Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling recently granted Baylor's Genetic Counseling Program full accreditation for a period of eight years, the maximum allowed for programs undergoing full accreditation. The program, within Baylor's School of Health Professions, was determined to comply with all standards. The decision is a credit to many faculty, students, alumni and staff who have contributed to the accreditation process.

Dr. Rayne Rouce, assistant professor of pediatrics – hematology and oncology, was recently selected as Digital Commissioning Editor for the journal Blood Advances. Blood Advances is a peer-reviewed, open-access medical journal published by the American Society of Hematology.

Mental Health Awareness 101: Baylor's Department of Family and Community Medicine will have a free pre-recorded webinar with a live question-and-answer session at noon, Jan. 10. Faculty Opportunities

Texas Developmental Center for AIDS Research: The National Institutes of Health-funded Texas Developmental Center for AIDS Research (Texas D-CFAR) invites Pilot Project grant applications offered through its Developmental Core. Proposals in all areas of HIV/AIDS basic, clinical, behavioral, substance use, and implementation science research are welcome. The Texas D-CFAR is especially interested in proposals aligned with its theme: "Ending HIV and Optimizing Health in Texas." Learn more in the grant announcement and see the application instructions.

Learning Community Adviser: The Office of Student Affairs is conducting interviews for a Learning Community Adviser for AY 2022-2023. The FTE is 0.1. Interested physician faculty should submit a one-page statement of interest, their CV and a letter of support from their department chair to Dianne Ohnstad at ohnstad@bcm.edu by 5 p.m., Jan. 14. The Learning Community Adviser's main roles are the following: attend LCA development meetings once a month; teach the Wellness Curriculum to MS1 Advisee Group, meet with each advisee twice per year at a minimum; advise requesting students on elective choices prior to each elective sign-up period; meet with advisees in social gatherings on or off campus.

Hackathon: The Department of Education, Technology, & Innovation is searching for the next big idea in health professions and health sciences education. Teams will compete for up to $25,000 to develop and grow an innovative project to pitch March 2 to a panel of judges at an event hackathon. A kickoff event will be at noon Jan. 19 in Cullen Auditorium, featuring speaker Grace Rodriguez, CEO of Impact Hub Houston. Rodriguez will share how she has created innovative ecosystems across Houston and programs to uplift women and minority entrepreneurs. To attend the kickoff virtually, register in Zoom.

Adverse Childhood Experiences: Baylor's Department of Family and Community Medicine will host a pre-recorded webinar with a live question-and-answer session at noon Jan. 24. Learn more about how certain experiences during childhood can change our brains, affect our physical and mental health and impact our behaviors throughout our life.
