Gerard Karsenty, Ph.D., M.D.Dr. Gerard Karsenty is a professor of molecular and human genetics at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He also serves as scientific director of The Bone Disease Program of Texas, a joint effort of Baylor and The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Originally from France, Karsenty has a Ph.D. in endocrine physiology and a M.D., both from the University of Paris. As a visiting fellow, he studied molecular, cellular and nutritional endocrinology at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md., and gene regulation at the National Cancer Institute before moving to Houston in 1987. He was a postdoctoral fellow and faculty member in molecular genetics at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center before joining the BCM faculty in 1998.

Karsenty's research interests focus on genetic control of cell function and development, particularly in the osteoblast cells in bone. His lab uses genetic and molecular biology approaches to study the biology of the skeleton.
