Stal named chief of division of plastic surgery at Baylor

RSS icon HOUSTON -- (April 4, 2006) -- Dr. Samuel Stal has been named chief of the division of plastic surgery in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine.

"Samuel Stal brings exceptional talent to our team and he's a superb academic surgeon," said Dr. Charles Brunicardi, chair of surgery at BCM. "He's one of the most outstanding teachers at Baylor, and I look forward to working with him in his new role."

Stal has served as interim chief of the division of plastic surgery since January 2005. He has an appointment at Texas Children's Hospital, where he is the medical director for the Center for Facial Surgery, and chief of the Plastic Surgery Service. Stal also has appointments in pediatrics, otolaryngology, and physical medicine & rehabilitation.

He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin and his medical degree from Loyola University School of Medicine. His post-graduate training included general surgery and otolaryngology residency at the University of Illinois, and a plastic surgery residency at BCM.

His main interests are rhinoplasty and pediatric plastic surgery with a special emphasis on the treatment of cleft lip and palate and other facial deformities.
