BCM opens pediatric HIV/AIDS medical center in Lesotho
MASERU, LESOTHO -- (December 2, 2005) --
The first medical center dedicated to caring for HIV/AIDS-infected infants and children in Lesotho opened its doors this week on World AIDS Day.

The center is operated by Baylor College of Medicine in partnership with the government of Lesotho and funded by Bristol-Myers Squibb.
King Letsie III of Lesotho hosted the opening ceremonies.
Dr. Peter G. Traber, Baylor president and CEO, and Dr. Mark Kline, director of the Baylor International Pediatric AIDS Initiative, participated in the clinic opening. Dr. Motloheloa Phooko, minister of health and social welfare in Lesotho, and Peter R. Dolan, CEO of Bristol-Myers Squibb, also attended the ceremonies.
The Baylor-Bristol-Myers Squibb Children's Clinical Center of Excellence - Lesotho is part of the children's center network operated by BIPAI in partnership with host countries in Romania, Africa, Mexico City and Libya. The Lesotho center is modeled after the Botswana-Baylor Children's Center of Excellence at Princess Marina Hospital in Gaborone, Botswana.
The center provides state-of-the-art facilities for testing, treating and monitoring patients and training health care professionals.
