RSS icon HOUSTON -- (October 1, 2009) -- Baylor College of Medicine is continuing to test the vaccine for the H1N1 (swine) influenza in adults. (Flu experts answer H1N1 trial questions.)

Baylor's Vaccine Treatment and Evaluation Unit is one of eight federally funded centers participating in a series of studies that will help determine the best dose of several experimental vaccines designed to protect against the 2009 H1N1 (swine) influenza.

At BCM, the goal of the study is to determine the reactions and protection responses following immunization with experimental influenza H1N1 vaccine when given with seasonal influenza vaccine. BCM is conducting trials involving adults, children and pregnant women. Video: One participant's comments.

In addition to BCM, other sites taking part in the trials include Cincinnati's Children's Hospital, Emory University, Saint Louis University, Seattle Group Health Cooperative, the University of Iowa, the University of Maryland School of Medicine and Vanderbilt University. They will be joined by Children's Mercy Hospital in Missouri and Duke University Medical Center.
