The
Shriners Hospitals for Children - Houston
is a 40-bed facility
devoted to the care of children with musculo-skeletal disorders
and their
accompanyiing multi-system issues. The hospital is an integral part
of the
Residency Training Program, affording the trainee exposure to both
reconstructive and restorative pediatric orthopedics.
The many specialty clinics and resulting surgery provide a broad
clinincal experience, encompassing scoliosis and other spinal disorders;
cerebral palsy; myelodysplasia; congenital foot, knee and hip abnormalities;
limb length discrepancy; limb deficiencies and prosthetics; upper
extremity
disorders; growth and development issues; and genetic and metabolic
conditions.
The Residency Conference Program for pediatric orthopedics is
based at
the Shriners Hospital, in association with Texas Children's Hospital,
and
includes a weekly topical journal club, a pre-operative indications
and
morbidity conference, and the Greater Houston Pediatric Orthopedic
Grand Rounds Conference.
