2 Fellows, 12 months

Requirements for Acceptance to Training Program
M.D. degree, graduate from an approved Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program, completed Fellowship application, letter of reference from the Residency Program Director, a Texas Medical License and CPR certification. See Fellowship for list of required documents.

Rotation
Ben Taub General Hospital, The Methodist Hospital

Specialty
The entire spectrum of Trauma, both adult and pediatrics. Although Ben Taub is a general hospital, greater than 90% of the number of patients admitted annually are trauma related admissions, approximately 85% of the admissions are for surgical treatment.

Physical Plant
Baylor College of Medicine Affiliated Hospital Systems: Ben Taub General Hospital, which is classified as a Class A Trauma Center (One of Two Located in Houston, Texas).

Ancillary Activity
Opportunity may arise where the Trauma Fellow would be engaged in participating with surgical care patients at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, as well as the Methodist Hospital.

Conferences
Attendance is required for the following: Orthopedic Grand Rounds/Weekly, Orthopedic Journal Club/Weekly,
Trauma/Fracture Conferences and visiting Lectureships.

Research
Clinical research project is with submission for publication prior to completion of the Fellowship.

Follow-up Care
Hospital Clinics: 9-12,000 clinic visits per year.

Results Recorded
Computer analysis is available for study groups

Patients Yearly
There are also multiple emergency evaluations, as well as 12,000 clinic visits, 3,000 ER visits and 1,600 admissions.

Surgery Yearly
1,400 operative procedures, 99% are performed by the Resident.

Teaching Aids
Video programs and cadaver dissections. Orthopedic Research Library. Fellow will develop personal slide library by photographing major surgical procedures. All equipment provided.

Stipend
Baylor College of Medicine Stipend Level: PGY VI.

Acceptance
Personal interview required when application materials are received and complete.
