2 Fellows, 12 months in duration

Requirements for Acceptance to Training Program
M.D. degree, graduation from an approved Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program, completed Fellowship application, letter of reference from the Residency Program Director, a Texas Medical License and CPR certification. See Fellowships for list of required documents.

Rotation
Office and Hospital

Specialty
Orthopedic Surgery/Hand Surgery/Microsurgery: Entire spectrum of upper extremity surgery with major emphasis on the hand and wrist-acute trauma, reconstructive surgery, brachial plexus, free bone and myo-cutaneuous flaps, replantation, total joint replacement, sports medicine, congenital deformities and arthroscopy.

Physical Plant
Baylor College of Medicine Affiliated Hospital System: The Methodist Hospital, St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, Texas Children's Hospital, Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children-Houston Unit, Harris County Hospital System (Ben Taub General Hospital), Veteran's Affairs Medical Center and Texas Institute of Research and Rehabilitation.

Ancillary Activity
Shriner's Hospital Hand and Brachial Plexus Clinics held monthly: 40 patients per month. Ten surgical cases per month. TIRR Hospital Hand and Brachial Plexus Clinic monthly: 10 patients per month.

Conferences
Attendance is required for the following: Orthopedic Grand Rounds/ Weekly, Orthopedic Journal Club/Weekly, Hand Surgery Conference/ Weekly, Hand Surgery Case Conference/Weekly, AM Teaching Conferences relating to specialty, and visiting Lectureships.

Research
Clinical research project is required with submission for publication prior to completion of fellowship

Teaching Aids
Video programs, cadaver dissections, and a Hand and Upper Extremity Library. Fellows will develop slide library by photographing major surgical procedures and lectures. All equipment is provided.

Baylor College of Medicine Stipend Level: PGY VI.

Acceptance
Personal interview required when application materials are received and complete.
