BCM Sleep Disorders Clinic

Adults with disorders of sleep require accurate diagnosis and management in order for them to sleep well and also to prevent these disorders from causing long-term medical and psycho-social problems. Sleep disorders that are diagnosed and treated in the Sleep Disorders Clinic include: sleep apnea, excessive daytime sleepiness, insomnia, narcolepsy, sleep walking, paroxysmal nocturnal dystonia, circadian rhythm sleep disorders and restless leg syndrome. However, not all patients with sleep problems have true sleep disorders but may have other treatable conditions that can be identified, such as epilepsy, psychological disturbances, medication effects, movement disorders or other medical disorders. These too are investigated as they relate to the patient’s sleep problems.

The Sleep Disorders Center and its Sleep Disorders Clinic are accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and its physicians are specialists in sleep medicine who are certified by both the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Sleep Medicine.

A critical adjunctive service to the Sleep Disorders Clinic is polysomnography – the overnight recording of electroencephalography, breathing patterns, body movements and video in order to characterize specific disorders. This diagnostic test is available through the Sleep Disorders Clinic.

The Sleep Clinic for Adults, for diagnosis and on-going therapy, is located in the Smith Tower, 18th floor.
