Parkinson Disease Center
and Movement Disorders Clinic

The Parkinson Disease Center and Movement Disorders Clinic at Baylor College of Medicine has long been recognized as one of the world’s leading clinical and research institutions with primary focus on Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders.

Founded by Joseph Jankovic, M.D. in 1977, the PDCMDC provides an unparalleled setting for expert and compassionate care, research and education, with the ultimate goal of finding a cause and a cure for neurodegenerative and movement disorders.

Nationally Recognized Experts

Dr. Jankovic, professor of neurology and PDCMDC director, is the past president of the Movement Disorders Society and the recipient of the 2007 American Academy of Neurology Movement Disorders Research Award, sponsored by the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation. He has authored over 700 articles and chapters, and has published over 35 books.

Another member of the PDCMDC is William G. Ondo, M.D., professor of neurology and associate director of the PDCMDC. Our highly regarded Movement Disorders Fellowship Program has trained numerous physicians and researchers, many of whom have become internationally recognized leaders in the field of movement disorders. The clinic’s 10,000 patient visits per year and a database of more than 25,000 individual patients and videos provide a powerful resource for effective recruitment into clinical trials and other research studies. The National Parkinson Foundation recognized the accomplishments of the PDCMDC by selecting it as one of its first Centers of Excellence and by supporting the center since 1992. In 2001, the Huntington’s Disease Society of America also awarded the PDCMDC the status of a Center of Excellence.

The primary missions of the PDCMDC are to:

  • Provide the most professional and compassionate patient care;
  • Initiate and conduct clinical and basic research which upholds the highest scientific standards;
  • Train physicians and other health care professionals to become skilled in the recognition and treatment of Parkinson’s and other movement disorders and to inspire them to pursue basic or clinical research in the area of movement and neurodegenerative disorders.
