Structure
The Baylor College of Medicine Multiple Sclerosis Comprehensive Care Center (MSCCC), Houston, is composed of: Maxine Mesinger Multiple Sclerosis Clinic, Research Unit and Outreach Program.
Maxine Mesinger Multiple Sclerosis Clinic
This patient-friendly, easy access, diagnostic and treatment clinic brings a variety of specialist caregivers to MS patients, offering a complete range of services in a single location.
Research Unit
Dr. Jian Hong, scientific director of the MSCCC, directs the MS Research Unit of the center. The Research Unit incorporates facilities in the Neurosensory Center on the 2nd and 5th floors with eventual plans to consolidate in a single location.
Outreach Program
The Outreach Program of the MSCCC is directed by Victor M. Rivera, M.D., founder of the Baylor International MS Center as headquarters of the Latin American Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis. This association represents more than 600 neurologists from 20 countries of Latin America. Dr. Rivera speaks and teaches extensively throughout the region and has helped to found several study groups and MS associations. Every year the program hosts dozens of international observers and visitors of the center including MS professionals, physicians and students.
Organization
The MSCCC includes other participating organizations: the National MS Society, Lone Star Chapter, The Institute of Rehabilitation and Research Memorial Hermann and The Methodist Hospital Rehabilitation Services. The MSCCC is affiliated to the NMSS and is a full member of the Consortium of MS Centers.
State of the art magnetic resonance imaging (including three 3.0 tesla unit magnets) and neurophysiological studies are available through the services provided to the center by associated institutions at the Texas Medical Center.
