EMG Laboratory

The EMG lab is oriented to both clinical evaluation of patients and training of residents and fellows. The director is James M Killian, M.D., professor of neurology.

Tests Performed

  • Electromyography
  • Nerve conduction studies
  • Repetitive stimulation for neuromuscular transmission disorders
  • Special studies as indicated

Clinical Indications

  • Referrals from neurology, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, orthopedics, general medicine.
  • Evaluation of neuromuscular and musculo-skeletal problems

Patient Referrals

  • From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 713-798-5983
  • Tests are scheduled from same day to a maximum of one week
  • Results same day verbal, same or next day written

  • Peripheral neuropathies
  • Hereditary neuropathies
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Expert Systems (ES)
    The EMG lab has used an EMR-ES system for all clinical work since 1991. By year 2005, an online archive of about 30,000 cases is available to residents for reviews and training.
