Donations

The Alzheimer’s Disease and Memory Disorders Center (ADMDC) at Baylor College of Medicine is a clinical care and research center which is funded through a changing combination of grants and contracts, as well as gifts and donations. Grant support for various projects is competitively sought from agencies such as the Alzheimer’s Association and the National Institute of Health (NIH).

Patients enrolled in the Center receive comprehensive care provided by a multidisciplinary team over the course of their illness. As members of the ADMDC, patients knowingly contribute to the advancement of both clinical and basic science research through their ongoing participation. The cost of providing care to patients in the Center far exceeds the funds generated through medical fees. Because much of our time and effort is donated, and the demand for services is greater than our capacities, waiting times may be long for obtaining new appointments. By making a donation to the center and designating it for clinical care, a contributor can help to ensure the continued provision of evidence based clinical care for AD patients in the Houston community and surrounding areas.

Research in the Center must be funded through a constant competition with other centers for increasingly limited research dollars. Most research grants are given for a period of one to three, and occasionally five years. Even a brief interruption in research funding can set research back by five years or more. A contributor can elect to provide a gift to support ongoing research and minimize the disruption caused by shifting funding sources.

For information on how to make a donation, please contact Angela Young, Director of Development, at angelay@bcm.edu, telephone number 713-798-8675, or by fax 713-798-3344.
