Andrew P. Rice  - Nancy Chang Professor

arice@bcm.tmc.edu

I obtained a B.A. degree in Biology from the University of California at Santa Cruz, and a Ph.D. degree in Biology from Brandeis University.  I did postdoctoral training at the University of Cambridge, England and the Imperial Cancer Research Fund Laboratory, London.  I was a Staff Scientist at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories before coming to Baylor College of Medicine in 1990.  I have been involved in studies of viral gene expression as a graduate student to the present time.

Christine H. Herrmann - Assistant Professor

herrmann@bcm.tmc.edu

I received a B.A. in Biology from Hofstra University in New York and a Ph.D. in Molecular Microbiology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.  I performed my thesis research on adenovirus gene expression at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories.  I did postdoctoral studies with Ed Harlow at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories and with Andy Rice at Baylor College of Medicine.   I have been an assistant professor at Baylor College of Medicine since 1995 and have been studying cellular factors that regulate HIV gene expression.

Hongbing Liu - Research Associate

hliu@bcm.tmc.edu

I got my M.D. from Shanghai Medical University, P. R. China and my Ph.D. from the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine, P. R. China. Since joining the lab in 1998, I have studied regulation of the promoters for human cyclin T1, the Cdk9 42k and 55k isoforms, and DC-SIGN.  Now I am focusing on mechanisms of HIV gene regulation in lymphocytes.

Wendong Yu - Graduate Student

wy132177@bcm.tmc.edu

I received my B.S. in clinical medicine from Weifang Medical College and my M.S. from the Capital Institute of Pediatrics, P. R. China.  Currently, my project is to study cyclin T1 induction and function in a monocytic cell line.

Yan Wang - Graduate Student

yw135452@bcm.tmc.edu

I got my B.S. degree from Peking University (Beijing, China) in the year 2001.  Then I came to Baylor for my Ph.D. training.  My Ph.D. study has focused on examining mechanisms that regulate HIV-1 gene expression in macrophages.

Tzu-ling (Daphne) Sung - Graduate Student

ts144315@bcm.tmc.edu

I received a B.S. in Zoology from National Taiwan University in 1999 and an M.S. in Microbiology at National Taiwan University in 2001.  I am interested in studying the role of cytokines in regulating TAK/P-TEFb complex function in Jurkat cells and primary CD4 T cells.

Rajesh (Raj) Ramakrishnan, Ph.D. - Postdoctoral Associate

ramakris@bcm.tmc.edu

I obtained a M.Sc. degree in Microbiology from University of Bombay in India. Then I worked at Franco-Indian Pharmaceuticals and Rhone-Poulenc (I) Ltd in Bombay. I received my Ph.D. in Microbiology & Immunology from University of Arizona in 2005. My dissertation was on molecular mechanisms of HIV-1 infection in cord blood mononuclear cells and mechanisms of HIV-1 perinatal transmission. I am currently working on the role of cyclins T1, T2, and 7SK snRNA in gene regulation and HIV-1 infection.

Eugene (Jake) Dow - Graduate Student

ed147411@bcm.tmc.edu

I received a B.S. in Microbiology from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) in May 2002. I then worked as a Research Assistant at UTEP for two years before joining the graduate program at Baylor College of Medicine in fall 2004. Currently, I am working on a project using nested PCR to identify HIV integration sites in infected tissue samples.
