Study of common causes of infection in neonates, children and adolescents, including their epidemology, diagnosis, treatment and prevention. Epidemiologic studies on influenza in infants, respiratory sysncytial virus, and B. pertussis infection. New antivirals against common respiratory pathogens. Vaccine evaluation, including new experimental vaccines, use of vaccine in high risk populations, and use of vaccines during pregnancy for the prevention of serious neonatal infections.
