Integrated Microscopy Core

Overview

The Integrated Microscopy Core, Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at Baylor College of Medicine is a state-of-the-art light and electron microscope facility for BCM and Dan L. Duncan Cancer Center-affiliated institutions.

The IMC is equipped with a:

  • NEW! Nikon A1sR advanced Laser Scanning Confocal Microscope: capable of conventional and ultrafast scanning as well as spectral imaging, is also equipped with a full enclosure incubator chamber with environmental control and Nikon's "perfect focus" autofocus system for long term live cell imaging and is capable of automatic imaging of multiwell plates
  • NEW! DeltaVision (Deconvolution) Image Restoration Microscope capable of long term live cell imaging as well as automatic multiwell plate (96 well) imaging, equipped with two high-end digital CCD cameras for high resolution (CoolSnap HQ) and fast, ultra high-sensitivity (Cascade 2) image collection.
  • Hitachi H-7500 Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM)
  • DeltaVision (Deconvolution) Image Restoration Microscope
  • Zeiss LSM 510 inverted Laser Scanning Microscope (Meta upgraded)
  • Zeiss Axioplan II upright microscope, for multicolor fluorescence and brighfield imaging
  • Two fully automated high throughput microscopes (Beckman IC-100) for slides or multi-well plates
  • Fluid handling robot (Beckman BioMek NX).

The high throughput imaging resources are augmented by an Assay Development Service; access is based upon a brief proposal that is evaluated by and ad hoc committee. If interested in this new service supported in part by the cancer center, please contact Dr. Michael Mancini directly.

The IMC also provides stand alone image analysis workstations with Applied Precision softWoRx, Imaris, Cytoshop, Metamorph, Nikon Elements, and the new, fully customizable PipeLine Pilot suite of image analysis, reporting and statistics, and Spotfire. Additional services include TEM sample processing and ultramicrotomy, and software and microscopy training on all systems.
