Electives Abroad: International Travel Health Issues
Students visiting international sites should insure that they are properly protected from disease and infection before leaving the United States. There are several sources both on the web and in the Texas Medical Center to obtain travel information for specific foreign locations.
St. Luke's Travel Medicine is now affiliated with Baylor and is newly located at Baylor Family Medicine, 3701 Kirby 1st floor clinic. To contact Joan Williams, R.N. please call 713-798-7700, option #5, she is the main travel medicine contact.
Each student enrolled in the Track is to spend four half-days (four hours each) at St. Luke's Travel Medicine Clinic. The clinic is open from 7 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday; 11:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, and from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. on Friday. This requirement may be completed during your ID rotation month, provided that you go to the travel clinic in the morning rather than the afternoon (afternoon coincides with ID attending rounds). Contact Ms. Joan Williams, RN at the St. Luke's Travel Medicine Clinic TWO WEEKS in advance to schedule. It is your responsibility to notify Rosa I. Olvera (rolvera@bcm.tmc.edu) of your completion of this requirement. You may want to ask Joan Williams to e-mail verification directly to Rosa Olvera.
