Major Malls

Houston malls are more than just a place for indoor shopping.  Several of the area's larger malls have adopted a "community center" format at which local residents enjoy dining, movie theaters, seasonal live entertainment, amusement centers, and, of course, shopping.  The region is home to more than 20 regional malls, most of which are shopping anchors for their particular area of the region.

The Galleria, one of the Southwest's largest shopping malls, is home to the nation's most prestigious retailers.

Intimate and Casual Shopping

If you prefer to shop in a more intimate environment, Houston's small neighborhood shopping centers are for you.  Following is a sampling of a few of Houston's more quaint shopping offerings:

Chelsea Market.  Montrose area center features gifts, art, jewelry, clothing and dining in the Museum District.

Olde Humble Shoppes.  Antiques, restaurants, clothing, handcrafted jewelry and gifts in a quaint setting of 35 unique shops.

Old Seabrook.  East of Johnson Space Center in Clear Lake City, the area features antiques, art, seafood, restaurants and boating.

Old Town Spring.  North of Houston on I-45, the historic main street features more than 100 unique shops and restaurants.

The Strand.  Just a little more than an hour from Houston is Galveston Island, a treasure trove of shopping pleasures.  Travel by trolley through the historic Strand District with its many shops and unique eateries.

Traders Village-Houston.  7979 North Eldridge Parkway.  100-acre flea market/ entertainment complex.

The Village.  Just west of Rice University, the area is Houston's original shopping district with 300 specialty shops and restaurants.

Consignment Shops

Red Door. 2531 Sunset Boulevard. 713-522-4343. Men's and women's consignment clothes. Good selection of women's formal wear and some consignment wedding dresses.

A Dress N Mo' tiques. 2520 Sunset Boulevard. No phone. Women's consignment clothes and consignment furniture (mostly from homes in West University which is right across the street).

The Blue Bird Circle Shop615 West Alabama.  713-528-0470. Men's, women's and children's consignment shop. Good selection of clothing and furniture at very reasonable prices.

The Blessed Event. 2516 Sunset Boulevard. 713-529-1557. Maternity consignment clothes as well as consignment children's clothes.

Polly John's Consignment House. 2421 Sunset Boulevard. 713-529-5999. An eclectic mix of consignment furniture (antique and modern) as well as consignment art (oil paintings and sculpture).

Twice New. 2005 West Gray. 713-523-2212.  A women's consignment store which carries designer labels-- to be expected in a store which is just a few blocks from River Oaks.

Fitness Unlimited. 3835 Bellaire Boulevard. 713-665-6269. Consignment sporting equipment including treadmills, exercise bikes, weight machines, and jogger strollers.
