Susanna grew up in Mobile, Alabama and attended Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia graduating in 1984 with a degree in Physics-Astronomy. She attended the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana obtaining a M.S. in Physics in 1986. She spent the next 11 years in a variety of jobs including teaching Astronomy at a junior college, doing research in material science at the University of Illinois and working for a computer company in Massachusetts. She also spent this time raising two children, Jennifer born in 1986 and Michael born in 1990. She decided to pursue a medical degree after moving to Massachusetts. After picking up pre-med requirements at Harvard University, she entered Baylor Medical School in 1997, graduating in 2001. She is the first doctor in her family and feels very fortunate to have had the opportunity to pursue a career in medicine later in life. She has been married to Chris since 1983 and appreciates her family being so supportive of her goals. In her free time she enjoys reading, singing in church choir, gardening and camping with her family. She hopes to pursue a career in primary care after finishing residency in 2005.
