Cool Websites that Residents Should at Least Know About
Below is a collection of the coolest websites (in my opinion) that we as
residents can use to make more efficient use of our time, relax or use as quick easy reference. This list has been growing and I've checked out most of these
services and can recommend them. Let me know what you think (david@dakesi.com) .
- www.Paymybills.com - Streamline your bill paying by having all of your
bills sent to another address, scanned in and emailed notices when they are due and pay them online without stamps, money orders, or written
checks. Even if you do an away elective you'll never miss a bill. Can say good bye to late payments. Also www.yahoo.com has a bill paying service now.
- www.wellsfargo.com - Can check you balance on line, see if your direct
deposit has arrived. Basically you can do everything that you used to do by telephone late at night.
- www.movies.yahoo.com/ - Just put in your zip code and it will give you a
listing of all the nearest theaters with show times. Like we really have time to go??!!
- www.Google.com - By far the best search engine on the web.
Hint....this is the magic behind Yahoo's search engine, except this site has no bells and whistles, just a good powerful and relevant searching tool.
- www.MDConsult.com - Say good by to the those big bulky reference
books, this is the site for the med student, resident and physician with at least 32 full reference texts, journal articles, patient education materials, and much more.
- www.Dialpad.com - All you need is a microphone hook up to your
computer and BAMMM, FREE LONG DISTANCE. No software to download. Also check out www.net2phone.com for other free long distance.
- AOL Instant Messenger - Send instant messages back and forth to
friends and family. You even can talk with them through your computer...IN REAL TIME. Simple set up. You don't have to have AOL either.
- www.Protonic.com - Online help when you get yourself in a bind with
the hardware or software on your computer. Just email your question to the tech guys.
- www.Hotmail.com - Free web based email that you can access with
any computer with internet access. You can even configure it to check other email account and read your school/work based email. Ask your computer guys at your school or work for the correct server address,
POP account, and SMTP server.
- www.Roadrunner.com - Fast High Speed internet access via cable
modem. Once you get it go to www.zonelabs.com and download a free firewall to protect your computer from hackers.
- www.Napster.com - Need I say more. Basically a place to download
free music files (MP3) and share them with others. Still legal so far so get it while it last.
- www.Netflix.com - Don't have time to go to Blockbuster or worry about
late fees. Check this site out. You can rent DVD's (4 at a time) and keep them as long as you like for about $20 a month.
- www.Learnlots.com - I my opinion this is the BEST SITE ON THE NET
for new internet computer users!!! Especially for rookies to the internet and software. It walks you step by step through anything to do with the
computer or internet. Downloading software! Installing Software!! Unzipping Files!! Etc.
- www.adcritic.com- Just a collection of TV's best and funniest
commercials. (better viewed with high speed access i.e. cable modem or DSL (www.swbell.com))
