Full-Time Faculty (Primary Appointment)

Research Interests:
Several clinical studies including ours have identified PlA2 allele
as a risk factor for coronary heart disease (CAD). Dr Vijayan's research
interest is focused on identifying the molecular mechanisms underlying
the involvement of PlA2 allele with CAD. His studies include 1) Characterizing
differential adhesive functions between the PlA1 and PlA2 allele to
the extracellular matrix proteins under shear and static conditions.
2) Identifying signaling differences between the two alleles in response
to fibrinogen binding. 3) Understanding the role of PlA2 allele in
modifying the effects of estrogen. These studies will shed light on
the thrombotic risk associated with PlA2 polymorphism.
