Section of Thrombosis Research
History
The Section of Thrombosis Research is the Department of Medicine's newest section. Knowing that thrombosis complicated a spectrum of clinical conditions overlapping virtually all areas of medicine, the chair and executive faculty of the department wanted to develop a world-renowned section that would bridge both basic and clinical research and concentrate the expertise to manage clinical conditions of thrombosis. Coincident with the start of the new millennium, on Jan. 1, 2000, that vision was realized when Dr. Paul F. Bray became the first chief of the Thrombosis Research Section.
Mission
Our mission is excellence in biomedical research, patient care and teaching. Although we strive for excellence in all three areas, the major focus of the faculty and structure of the section is on research. The major theme of our research efforts is the molecular pathogenesis and treatment of disorders of thrombosis and hemorrhage.
Core Lab
The Thrombosis Core Lab was established in June 2000 for the purpose of conducting clinical transitional thrombosis and hemostasis research. It is affiliated with the Department of Medicine, Section of Thrombosis Research, Baylor College of Medicine.
