Full-Time Faculty (Primary Appointment)
Research Interests:
Coronary heart disease and other vascular diseases account
for approximately half of all deaths in women. Although the underlying
pathophysiological processes are similar, the onset and clinical end-points
of women are significantly delayed compared to men. My current research
interests include the gender differences in the development of thrombotic
diseases and the mechanisms of arterial thrombosis in women. My major
effort is focused on the gender differences in platelet function and
sex hormone regulation of megakaryocytes function. Studies have been
initiated to isolate and identify megakaryocyte cDNAs in response
to sex hormones.
