Allergy and Immunology
The Allergy and Immunology Training Program offers two to three year training position in the broad discipline of allergy and immunology. Candidates are trained in an environment which teaches them to provide outstanding clinical care, design and conduct scientific research projects, and to develop fundamental skills to pursue an academic career in medicine. Program participants develop expertise in the evaluation of clinic patients and in the application of allergy and immunology laboratory tests for diagnosis and treatment. Trainees also attend graduate courses in immunology and learn to manage both basic and clinical science investigations to carry out research studies. Trainees divide their time among clinical training sites at Ben Taub General Hospital, Texas Children's Hosspital, St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, The Methodist Hospital and Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Support is provided to attend regional and national medical conferences. Training in a single subspecialty is for at least two years with an optional third and/or fourth year for combined training programs in Allergy and Immunology and in Rheumatology or extended research training.
