Education

Medical Students

The Section of Immunology Allergy and Rheumatology is committed to making the medical student elective an outstanding educational experience. The section provides an opportunity to experience inpatient, outpatient, and consultant services to Ben Taub General Hospital, Texas Children's Hospital, St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, The Methodist Hospital, and Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Students are either assigned to these services or have the option of selecting their service rotation.

Graduate Students

Graduate student experience in the Section of Immunology Allergy and Rheumatology is one of education excellence. The section provides career direction, training and experience in basic and clinical research projects.

Residents

The Section of Immunology Allergy and Rheumatology is dedicated to making the medical resident rotation an outstanding educational experience. The section provides training in inpatient, outpatient and consultant services to Ben Taub General Hospital, Texas Children's Hospital, St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, The Methodist Hospital and Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Residents are assigned to these services which offer a diverse patient population and experience.

Biology of Inflammation Center Grand Rounds

The Biology of Inflammation Center Grand Rounds are a monthly conference held on the first Wednesday of each month which focuses on recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of allergy and immunologic diseases. This conference is attended by the faculty as well as Medicine fellows, residents, medical, research staff and medical and graduate students. Presentations are made by Baylor faculty members as well as visiting professors. The primary purpose of these health forums is to summarize practical application of the basic knowledge of immunity in clinical medicine while updating fundamentals in immunology and keeping updated on recent advances in immunological issues.

Immunology Grand Rounds

Immunology Grand Rounds are a monthly conference held the first Tuesday of each month which focuses on recent advances in the diagnosos and treatment of allergy and immunologic diseases. This conference is attended by faculty as well as Medicine fellows, resident, medical and graduate students. Presentations are made by Baylor faculty members as well as visiting professors. The primary purpose of these grand rounds is to summarize practical application of the basic knowledge of immunity in clinical medicine while updating fundamentals in immunology and keeping updated on recent advances in immunological issues.

Rheumatology Grand Rounds

Rheumatology Grand Rounds are a bi-weekly conference attended by faculty and trainees from both Baylor College of Medicne Departments of Medicine and Pediatrics and from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston as well as private practitioners. This grand rounds is organized by the training program directors from the three rheumatology programs in the Texas Medical Center. Lectures are given by Baylor faculty members as well as by faculty from other basic and clinical science departments in the Texas Medical Center. The purpose of the conferences is to provide education in basic and clinical science topics specified in the core curriculum and to provide trainees with an opportunity to develop thier communication and resource skills. This grand rounds also promotes interaction among the training programs in Medicine and Pediatrics with other clinical and basic science departments as well as with national scholars and community physicians.

Department of Medicine Grand Rounds

Department of Medicine Grand Rounds are a weekly lecture given by faculty and visiting professors on a wide range of topics in clinical and basic sciences, including health care research, epidemiology, and economic and psychosocial issues.

Department of Medicine Clinical Pathologic Conference

Department of Medicine Clinical Pathologic Conference is held once a month for review of case studies which focus on differential diagnosis, pathophysiology and pathology issues.
