FRANCISCA GUSHIKEN, M.D.

Research Interests:

My previous work was on hypercoagulable states in patients with autoimmune diseases with specific emphasis on the pathophysiology of the antiphospholipid syndrome. Currently I am interested in the generation of platelet-specific knockout mice and platelet specific transgenic mice to study the role of CD40 and CD40L from platelets in inflammatory processes like atherosclerosis. This efforts may shed light on possible interventions aimed at disrupting the connections between inflammation and thrombosis.
