Continuing Medical Education
The centerpiece of the section's CME program for primary care physicians, general surgeons and gastroenterologists is the annual Update in Gastrointestinal Diseases. This two-day event in one of Houston's finest hotels is a practical and comprehensive review and update in the specialty of gastroenterology and hepatology for the practicing clinician. The faculty consists of local experts from Baylor College of Medicine as well as world-renown visiting faculty. The course provides 18 hours of CME credit to registered attendees.
GI Grand Rounds
The section also hosts the Weekly GI Grand Rounds . This interdisciplinary conference is held live from 8 to 9 a.m., Thursday, in Room 202 at Baylor College of Medicine. Interesting and challenging cases from the three teaching hospitals are presented in a format to maximize audience participation regarding important diagnostic and therapeutic decisions. Community and academic gastroenterologists interact with expert surgeons, radiologists and pathologists as the details of the cases are revealed. At the conclusion of each case important teaching points are made with a brief review of the literature in a focused area related to the case discussion. One hour of CME credit is available for each weekly session. Selected cases are available online for the convenience of those unavailable for the live conference.
