The mission of the Barrett's Esophagus Center is to improve the lives of patients with Barrett's esophagus by offering outstanding comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services and leading-edge research.
The optimum diagnosis and management of Barrett's esophagus entails a high-level multidisciplinary approach involving specialized expertise from a team of gastroenterologists, pathologists, oncologists, and surgeons.
What is Barrett's esophagus?
Barrett's esophagus is a complication of chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) that predisposes to adenocarcinoma (cancer) of the esophagus. Visit our FAQ page for detailed information.
Current strategies for improved survival in patients with esophageal adenocarcinoma focus on cancer detection at an early and potentially curable stage. This can be accomplished either by screening more GERD patients for Barrett's esophagus or with endoscopic surveillance of patients with known Barrett's esophagus.
