Computing
- All of Baylor College of Medicine's research laboratories, clinical care units, and administrative offices are linked by a network.
The Network Operations arm is responsible for designing, configuring, installing and maintaining the network infrastructure that connects nearly 8,000 Baylor computing devices, including servers, desktop computers, laptops, printers, scanners and microscopes. The data infrastructure is comprised of miles of copper and fiber optic cables, as well as more than 500 routers, switches and hubs, located in over 30 buildings throughout the Texas Medical Center, the Houston metropolitan area and the State of Texas. In addition, the Network Operations department provides Internet and Internet2 access to Baylor's own computing customers, as well as to: - Texas Children's Hospital
- The Methodist Healthcare System
- St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital
- The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research
- Harris County Hospital District
- The Texas Heart Institute
- Children's Nutrition Research Center
- TMC Library
- The Hospice Clinic.
Baylor's total Internet customer base exceeds 20,000 users.
The Biomedical Computing Facility serves Baylor as a strategic central resource to provide computational services, manage high-performance computation and data warehousing systems and most importantly, skilled personnel to serve the diverse computational needs of BCM faculty and students. We house high-performance computers, visualization equipment and data warehousing systems. In addition to the high-end computing equipment and support, the BCF also handles access to GCG, SeqLab and SeqWeb, as well as offering discounted licensing for several commonly used statistical software packages, including SAS and SPSS.
