Application Process

Admissions Information

Application Deadline: Jan. 1
Beginning in December, completed applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Applications should be submitted as early as possible. Deadline for completed applications is Jan. 1.

Prerequisites
Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent with sound preparation in biology, chemistry, and biochemistry. Research experience is strongly recommended.

  • Letters of recommendation (3-4) should be submitted electronically via the online application system.
  • Official GRE scores (not more than three years old) General Test is required. (Institution code is 6052).
    Subject Test in Biology; Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology; or Chemistry is recommended.
  • TOEFL scores are required for foreign applicants who attended a non-English speaking university. Tests must not be more than two years old at the time of application. (Institution code is 6052). Perferred scores are above 100 for internet based, above 250 for computer based and above 600 for paper based exams.

Application Process

  • Applications are evaluated and ranked by a faculty-student committee
  • Selected applicants are invited for an expense-paid interview weekend. International applicants are interviewd by telephone
  • Ten new students are admitted each year
  • Notification of action regarding admission and financial support is generally made within two weeks of the interview and before April 15th

Interview Weekends
Top applicants that reside in the United States are invited to Houston for an expense-paid interview. Applicants arrive on a Thursday afternoon to attend an evening dinner reception. They interview with faculty on Friday and tour the city with students on Saturday. Departures are scheduled for Sunday morning. Selected international applicants will be interviewed by telephone.

Interview weekends will be Feb. 4-6 and Feb. 25-27, 2010.
