Match Day 2001
The Class of 2001 received the results of the annual National Resident Matching Program, which pairs fourth-year medical students with residency
programs throughout the nation. After receiving a medical degree, physicians enter a residency program for another three to seven years of training.
This year’s graduating class matched 88 percent with one of their top three choices and 66.4 percent matched with their first choice. Overall,
53.4 percent of the students are entering primary care residency programs in the fields of family medicine, pediatrics, internal medicine, medicine/pediatrics, or obstetrics and gynecology.
Of the 166 students who will graduate May 23, 150 participated in the Match Day event. The remaining students participated in the military residency
match, or the early match program for neurology, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, and urology residencies.
