Communication Access: Serving People who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing

About the Presenter

Randi Turner is a Communication Access Specialist for the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS), Office for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services. She works with federal, state and local agencies and service providers, for profit and non profit, regarding their obligations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Rehabilitation Act. Randi is a nationally recognized expert on communication issues and the ADA and has been providing training and technical assistance on communication access for more than 15 years. She has developed a statewide train-the-trainer network in Texas on the ADA and communication to empower people who are deaf or hard of hearing with knowledge of their civil rights and training for the business community and public entities on their responsibilities under the ADA. Randi also provides statewide training for parents of children with hearing loss and their rights under the IDEA. Ms.Turner has a  BAAS degree from Texas State University and holds RID CI/CT interpreter certification, as well as Texas BEI Interpreter Certification, Level III.
