Compulsive Hoarding, Housing Stabilization and Fair Housing

About the Presenter

Jesse Edsell-Vetter is a Case Management Specialist with the Metropolitan Boston Housing Partnership (MBHP). Jesse Edsell-Vetter led the establishment of MBHP’s Hoarding and Sanitation Initiative in May 2006. As a staff member of MBHP’s Inspectional Services Department, Edsell-Vetter had noticed increasing incidents of failed Section 8 apartment inspections, many with subsequent evictions, due to hoarding. With the support of MBHP he researched hoarding and its impact on housing, and in November 2007 he had transitioned to MBHP’s full-time hoarding case manager. Edsell-Vetter now serves as a resource to Boston-area legislators, government human service agencies and organizations, educational institutions, and social service providers. He also provides training, technical assistance and advocacy at the local and state levels. Edsell-Vetter serves on numerous committees, boards and commissions, including the Massachusetts Steering Committee on Compulsive Hoarding, and he is the lead convener for the Third Sector New England grant-funded Boston Regional Hoarding Response Network. Edsell-Vetter studied public health at both the University of North Carolina Greensboro and the University of Massachusetts Boston. He lives in the Greater Boston area with his wife and son.
