hES Cell Culture Course

The three-day training course will provide hands-on training in all aspects of culturing hES cells. The course will include the following:

Written training material, laboratory instruction and practice.
Instruction on culturing, expanding, freezing thawing and maintaining hES cells with emphasis in cell morphology, colony size, and density.
Discussions the importance of regular monitoring and characterization of hES cultures by karyotype, stem cell marker expression and pluripotency assays. Also, we will instruct how to QC reagents, and equipment.
Instruction on methods to establish primary mouse embryo fibroblast (MEF) cultures used as feeders for hES cells culture.
Learning to expand, inactivate and prepare feeders for hES culture. Alternative methods of culturing hES without the use of MEFs will be discussed.
