hES Cell Culture Course

The three-day training course will provide hands-on training in all aspects of culturing hES cells. The course will include the following:

  • Written training material, laboratory instruction and practice.
  • Instruction on culturing, expanding, freezing thawing and maintaining hES cells with emphasis in cell morphology, colony size, and density.
  • Discussions the importance of regular monitoring and characterization of hES cultures by karyotype, stem cell marker expression and pluripotency assays. Also, we will instruct how to QC reagents, and equipment.
  • Instruction on methods to establish primary mouse embryo fibroblast (MEF) cultures used as feeders for hES cells culture.
  • Learning to expand, inactivate and prepare feeders for hES culture. Alternative methods of culturing hES without the use of MEFs will be discussed.
