Oral Presentations

Meeting participants who give oral presentations may use traditional slides and a carousel projector. Alternatively, speakers may choose to use PowerPoint. If you plan to use PowerPoint, please read the following instructions carefully.

Due to time constraints in the oral sessions, you will NOT be allowed to plug your own laptop into the LCD Projector. All PowerPoint presentations will be run from a single Dell PC laptop computer containing the software for PowerPoint 2000. Slideshows will be loaded onto the Dell laptop hard drive prior to each session via CD or Zip disk.

Specific Instructions for PowerPoint Presentations:

  1. Create your slideshow and save it using a filename that includes the name of the abstract's first author.
  2. Select "On-Screen Show" for your page format.
  3. When saving your slide show (to either a CD or a Zip disk), save using the option of "Embed True Type fonts" to ensure that all fonts and symbols will be saved. This feature is not available for Mac users; therefore, you should be sure to save your file using common True Type Fonts.
  4. To embed fonts when working in PowerPoint 97: select "Save as" and check the small box at the right labeled "Embed True Type Font".
  5. To embed fonts when working in PowerPoint 2000: select "Save As", then select the "tools" option from the pull-down menu and select "Embed True Type Fonts".
  6. Bring your CD or Zip disk to the meeting. You may download the slide show file to the laptop either Sunday during the meeting registration, or before your session begins.
  7. We strongly recommend that you test your slide show on a computer that has PowerPoint 2000 to be certain the slides appear as you intend.

Poster Presentations

All posters will remain on display during the entire meeting.

Space available for each poster presentation: 3' 6" width x 4' height (105 cm x 120 cm). Push-pins will be provided.

Banquet

A New England Lobster Clambake will be served on Wednesday night, August 1. This casual dinner will be held outdoors under a tent. Extra tickets may be purchased as part of the online registration process.

Optional Excursions

You may select from two outdoor activities planned for Tuesday afternoon. Each trip involves a short bus ride. You need to register in advance to guarantee your space on the bus. You can sign up for your choice of excursion as part of the meeting registration process.

One excursion takes you to the National Historic Landmark village of Deerfield , where you will see a collection of 18th and 19th Century houses. You may stroll through the tree-shaded streets or visit the museum.

The other excursion is to nearby Lake Quabbin, an 18-mile long reservoir surrounded by thousands of acres of forest. Hiking trails lead you to spectacular scenery.
