Information for Medical Genetics Training Applicants
The American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG) Medical Genetics Residency Program is accredited by the Residency Review Committee of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. We are currently approved for a total of 12 residents.
New Residents for 2011
Five-year Combined Pediatrics/Medical Genetics Residency:
Applicants who are seniors at allopathic medical schools in the United States must use the National Residency Match Program (NRMP) for entry. Medical Genetics will begin using AAMC Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) for the 2010-2011 application cycle. The following documents are required:
- ERAS CV
- Three letters of reference (one should be from your medical school dean)
- Personal statement
- Official medical school transcript
- USMLE scores
Applications are accepted in August and interviews are conducted November - January. We generally do not accept international medical graduates into this pathway.
Two-year Medical Genetics Residency:
Medical Genetics will begin using ERAS and NRMP in 2010 for those applying for the two-year categorical genetics training program. ERAS will open in July and applications will be accepted August - October. The following documents are required:
- ERAS CV
- Three letters of reference (one should be from your current residency program director)
- Personal statement
- Official medical school transcript
Interviews are conducted September - November. Interviews are granted based upon review of the application package. Match day is in mid-December, seven months prior to the start date of July 1.
Four-Year Residency Program:
Applicants who are seniors at allopathic medical schools in the United States must use the NRMP for entry. Medical Genetics will begin using ERAS for the 2010-2011 application cycle. The following documents are required:
