Genetics Graduate Student

The Graduate Program in Molecular and Human Genetics provides outstanding educational opportunities for students who wish to pursue a career in research, education, and service in this field.

Students in the program obtain rigorous training in modern biology with a special emphasis on genetics. They also participate in cutting-edge research on a variety of topics and publish their work in some of the best peer-reviewed journals in the world. The unique environment of a large medical center provides students with an opportunity to obtain education and practical experience in both basic and applied research.

Highlights

Hsing-I Ho was awarded an International Student Research Fellowship from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.

Liubin Yang is a 2012 Fellowship Recipient of the Pediatric Oncology Student Training Program (POST) of the Alex Lemonade Stand Foundation.

Zongxiao He, Ruchi Masand, Xia Wang and Yijie Zhai were named Fellows in The Houston Laboratory and Population Sciences Training Program in Gene-Environment Interaction 2012-2014.

Maria Namwanje and Jessica Sowa were named Fellows in The Houston Laboratory and Population Sciences Training Program in Gene-Environment Interaction 2011-2013.

Tyler Beck was selected as one of 150 graduate students in the country to go to the 2012 NIH Graduate Student Research Conference.

Zongxiao He was a semifinalist for the 2012 ASHG/Charles J. Epstein Trainee Award for Excellence in Human Genetics Research.

Jason Saliba was recognized for having a Highly Rated Poster Presentation at the 2012 American Association of Cancer Research Annual Meeting (AACR).

Philip Boone, Nya Nelson and Beatriz Santillan were named BRASS (Baylor Research Advocates for Student Scientists) Scholars.
