Vector Development Lab Facility

Alkek Building

The Vector Development Laboratory is located on the 10th floor of the Alkek Building at Baylor College of Medicine.

The VDL itself consists of three major sections:

  • A cell culture section for GLP manufacture of virus-vectors
  • A GLP virus-vector purification section for gradient and chromatography purification
  • A section for GLP validation and analysis of these vectors

Vector management and storage are done using a bar coding system. All vectors are bar coded to ensure identity. When a vector vial is bar coded and this information is transferred to the database tracking system.

Virus production and quality assurance records are stored on site for 10 years. These are easily accessible and provided to investigators on request.
