Essential Functions and Duties

Job Summary:
Serves as an expert in quality management and quality improvement in the medical care for patients and donors on transplant service and collection facilities. Develops and maintains the standard operating procedures (SOP) within the clinical transplant program and ensures all facilities have access to the software program in which the SOP's are tracked, maintained and backup systems available. Independently initiates functions with minimal supervision. Works closely with the physicians, nurses and staff of the program and institutions to conduct ongoing quality assurance and quality improvement within the department.
Serves as a liaison with the Quality Improvement (QI) departments of all programs as well as the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) office. Maintains competencies, licensure, and continuing medical education documentation.

Essential Functions and Duties:
*Manages and maintains the Center for Cell and Gene Therapy (CAGT) clinical standard operating procedures.
*Participates in the development of Transplant Program SOP's as well as any institutional policies and procedures that are required per FACT guidelines.
*Maintains the records for all newly created and archived SOP's for the clinical service of the transplant and CAGT program.
*Creates and maintains a current copy of the available SOP's for designated areas, by hard copy and also via the shared files in all institutions.
*Collects outcome parameters for analysis.
*Educates hospital staff about new SOP's involving transplants.
*Services in various departments and patient care areas of the hospital.
*Creates and maintains a computerized system of SOP review for staff.
*Maintains competencies, licensure, and continuing medical education documentation for the mid-level practitioners and faculty attending physicians on the Transplant Service.
*Ensures adherence to the strict, established requirements set forth by the FACT.
*Maintains certification requirements and completes applications for participation in special groups.
*Serves as an expert clinical resource to the institution and other organizations.
*Actively participates in and represents transplantation on
institutional committees, task forces and special programs/projects.
*Provides leadership in innovative program development in collaboration with other members of CAGT and other disciplines.
*Provides benchmarking information regarding clinical care for CAGT and other disciplines.
*Demonstrates advanced practice and leadership skills through scholarly publications and local and national presentations.
*Maintains appropriate certification and licensure by attending continuing medical education events.
*Establishes networks with other organizations and experts related to patient care issues.
*Actively participates in professional associations at both the local and/or national level.
*Participates in quality assurance and improvement activities.
*Collects, analyzes, presents data, presents patient care issues and quality issues in the CAGT clinical Program.
*Coordinates the activities regarding the FACT certification process.
*Collaborates with the managed care department regarding third party payor issues.

Minimum Education

Required: Bachelor's degree in Nursing or equivalent field.  

Minimum Job Experience

Required: Minimum of 3 years experience in hematopoietic stem cell transplatation is required.

Preferred: Quality assurance/improvement experience.  

Minimum Certification/Licenses/Registration

Required: RN or CRNA licensed in Texas.  

Additional Information

Minimum skills, knowledge, and abilities required:
* Proficiency in medical terminology and current healthcare management methodology within transplantation/oncology sciences.
* Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
* Knowledge of computer software packages and operations, especially Microsoft Office.
* Proficiency in relational database management.
* Ability to compile, analyze and summarize data.
* Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms with a variety of people, including patients, families and faculty members.
* Ability to prepare presentations using software programs.
* Organizational ability to prioritize tasks and exercise independent judgment.
* Human subjects training.
* Displays knowledge of disease process/physiology and pathology of the hematopoietic system and the hematopoietic stem cell.
* Advanced skills in collaboration, consultation, systems change strategies, export clinical decision making and communication techniques.
*Ability to work in stressful conditions.
