Essential Functions and Duties

Job Summary:
New human embryonic stem cell training and culture core facility is looking for a research technician. The candidate will be involved in an array of activities including extensive tissue culture under precise SOP guidance, quality control analyses of cell lines using standard molecular biological and biochemical techniques, and experiments involving laboratory mice. It is also expected that the research technician will perform general lab management including ordering supplies, maintaining lab data bases, and training lab personnel and core trainees.

Essential Functions and duties:
*Maintains and expands hES cell lines.
*Freezes cells and maintains a cell bank.
*Provides hES cell to investigators using the core facility.
*Derives mouse embryonic feeder cells.
*Performs quality control tests of tissue culture regents.
*Aliquots reagents, develop a labeling system, and keep records.
*Analyzes cultured cells via flow cytometry, karyotyping, and
mycoplasma analysis.
*Performs basic molecular biology techniques: DNA and RNA
isolation, subcloning, electroporation, and PCR techniques.
*Animal handling: IP injections, minor surgery, and blood collection.
*Cleans and monitors equipment function at regular bases: water bath, incubators, and Liquid Nitrogen tanks.
*Records activities and experiments in a timely manner.
*Must work Saturday or Sunday (on a rotation basis, 2hr/days) to feed cells.
*Performs other job related duties as assigned.  

Minimum Education

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in a basic science or equivalent education.
  • Preferred: Master's degree in a basic science.

 

Minimum Job Experience

  • Required: One year of directly related experience.

  • None required.
