A 68 year old man referred for evaluation of a pancreatic
mass
History of the Present Illness:
He was in his usual state of good health until 5 weeks ago
when began to have epigastric pain radiating to his back. The pain was insidious
in onset, continuous and moderate in intensity. About 10 days ago he started
having pruritis associated with nausea and a decrease in appetite. He had
lost 5 pounds in weight. He was seen at an outside hospital where a possible
pancreatic mass was detected on CT scan of the abdomen. On ERCP a distal common
bile duct stricture was demonstrated. Free canulation of the common duct was
not possible, so no brushings were obtained and no stent was placed. He was
then referred here for further management.
