Gastroenterology Grand Rounds - Take Home Lessons
The main lessons to take home concerning this case
are:
1. Even though recent studies show no benefit, hormonal therapy
may have some efficacy in reducing transfusion requirements and recurrent
bleeding in selected patients with AVMs.
2. Use of electrocoagulation in colonscopy is a reasonable
option in patients with few AVM's but proof of efficacy is not available.
3. Asymptomatic patients with colonic AVMs do not need
any therapy.
