Slide 1 - 1.5 cm sigmoid
polyp at 25cm showed features of a hyperplastic polyp. This and the following
two higher power views show that the regenerative zone of the gland forms
the typical stellate appearence from the hyperplasia of the epithelium
but the nuclei are small and basally oriented.
Slide 6 - 2.5 cm sigmoid
polyp at 23 cm showed features of both hyperplastic and adenomatous polyp.
Note that the part of the polyp on the left shows the features of a hyperplastic
polyp listed under Slide 1. But the part of the polyp on the right shows
features of an adenomatous polyp. On the right there is mucin depletion,
there are large nuclei with a high nuclear to cytoplasmic ratio, and the
nuclei are not basally oriented but are found closer to the lumen of the
gland.
Slide 7 - a higher power
view showing the two types of polyps as above.
Slide 8 - a high power
view of the hyperplastic polyp.
Slide 9 - a high power
view of the adenomatous polyp with the features described in Slide 6 above.
Slide 10 - a high power
view with two different glands back-to-back. The epithelium on the left
is hyperplastic. That on the right is adenomatous.
