Slide 1 - Because of
the low platelet count, a transjugular biopsy was performed. This low power
view (Masson-Trichrome stain) shows the overall morphology.
Slide 3 - Although it
is a low power view (H & E stain), many pathologic features are evident
in this slide.
Slide 4 - This high
power view (H & E) shows the marked inflammation in the hepatic lobule.
This was also seen in the portal areas. The cells marked with the arrows
were the predominant inflammatory cells and in some areas were very numerous.
What important pathologic features are absent from the
biopsy slides? What diagnoses does this allow you to rule out?
