| The DDC
Seminar Program
The DDC seminar program, the weekly
GI Research Forum, is designed to encourage interactions
among basic and clinical investigators. DDC members may present
research results, clinical studies, and work-in-progress in
an informal setting that will be conducive to discussion and
information exchange. As part of this program, national leaders
in GI research are often invited to speak to the group. Any
member of the DDC may suggest seminar speakers and act as
faculty host, after approval by the Internal Advisory Committee
of the DDC. Occasionally, a reception after the seminar may
give DDC members the opportunity to discuss research topics
in more detail with the invited speaker.
The
DDC-sponsored seminar series aims to be an important mechanism
for drawing GI investigators together with a rich and varied
list of speakers who are highly beneficial to GI trainees
and researchers in the Medical Center area of Texas. By the judicious
selection of speakers, a breadth of GI-related basic and clinical
topics is covered.
Occasionally,
the DDC may also co-sponsor a program at UTHSC
in conjunction with other on-going or special seminar series
at these institutions. Such sponsorship serves the purpose
of informing investigators about the Center and it’s
activities. The GI Research Forum takes
places every Thursday at 4:00pm at Baylor College of Medicine’s
DeBakey building, room M112.
Annual Medical Center
GI Research Forum
The
first Medical Center GI Research Forum was organized in 1992.
This annual event has now become an important venue for interactions
among GI researchers in the entire Greater Medical Center area.
The all-day program includes brief talks by selected clinicians,
basic scientists, established investigators, and current or
recent recipients of Pilot/Feasibility funding from the DDC.
Participants are encouraged to present posters of their current
work and ample time for informal discussion is allowed both
during the Forum and afterwards at the closing banquet.
