Musher lauded by Infectious Diseases Society of America
Daniel M. Musher, M.D., infectious disease section chief at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center and professor of medicine - infectious disease at Baylor College of Medicine, is the recipient of the 2007 Infectious Diseases Society of America Clinical Teacher Award. The award honors outstanding achievement in the field of infectious diseases through education, research and patient care.
Davis receives award
Teresa Davis, M.D., professor of pediatrics, received the Animal Growth and Development Award from the American Society of Animal Science recently at its annual meeting. The award recognizes basic or applied research excellence in any phase of growth or development of animals.
Palzkill named interim chair in pharmacology
Timothy Palzkill, Ph.D., has been named the interim chair of the Baylor College of Medicine department of pharmacology. Palzkill is a professor of molecular virology and microbiology as well as biochemistry and molecular biology.
Tweardy named interim chair of medicine
David Tweardy, M.D., has been named interim chair of the Baylor College of Medicine department of medicine. Tweardy, who is chief of infectious disease and interim chief of immunology, allergy and rheumatology, is a professor of medicine and molecular and cellular biology. He received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He is an internationally recognized expert in peptide hormone signaling research.
Guntuplai named chief of pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine
Kay Guntupalli, M.D., has been named chief of the pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine section in the department of medicine. Guntupalli, professor of medicine, is a graduate of the Institute of Medical Sciences, Osmania Medical College, India, with training in pulmonary diseases from Georgetown University and critical care medicine from the University of Pittsburgh. Her research interests include adult respiratory distress syndrome and patient/resident education.
