New chief of hematology/oncology
Dr. Martha P. Mims, associate professor of medicine and a professor in the Dan L. Duncan Cancer Center at BCM, has been appointed as chief of the section of hematology/oncology in the department of medicine.
Since 2008, Dr. Mims has served as the administrative director of the hematology/oncology Unit at the Harris County Hospital District's Ben Taub General Hospital, where she conducts extensive patient care activities (including development and direction of a genitourinary oncology multi-disciplinary clinic) and co-chairs the cancer committee. She also serves as vice chair of the BCM Admissions Committee and as associate director of the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Training program.
Noon given Clark Award
Dr. George Noon, professor of surgery and chief of transplantation, was presented with the 2009 Dr. Barney Clark Award at ASAIO (American Society for Artificial Internal Organs).
The presentation was made in recognition of the life-long dedication to developing and applying circulatory assist technologies not only for acute but also for chronic heart failure patients, and of assisting Dr. Michael E. DeBakey in becoming the leading individual in the field of circulatory assist technologies.
