Lunn named vice president for medical affairs

William Lunn, M.D, assistant professor of medicine, was appointed vice president for medical affairs. He will be a clinical leader for the Baylor Clinic and Hospital and the college with principal responsibility for the faculty conduct of clinical care. The appointment was made by Donna Sollenberger, executive vice president and CEO of Baylor Clinic and Hospital.

Lunn will also have responsibility for medical leadership in the areas of medical informatics, medical quality improvement, medical staff affairs and integration of graduate medical education into BCH. He will work closely with the clinic and hospital leadership team in the overall development and implementation of the new hospital project, assisting in the development of information systems to support clinical practice and physician work flows and order sets, as well as health education for patients. He will oversee physician practice in both inpatient and outpatient settings to assure close coordination of all elements of patient care and to ensure high quality and efficiency of care in both settings.

Lunn is assistant dean for clinical affairs and medical director of the Houston Hospital for Specialized Surgery. He also serves as director of Interventional Pulmonary.

Donovan recognized for patient care

Donald Donovan, M.D., senior associate dean and professor of otolaryngology, was awarded the John W. Overstreet, M.D., Award by The Methodist Hospital. The award is given annually to one physician who exemplifies the best of the medical profession by demonstrating respect, empathy and caring in interactions with patients, family and staff and who supports the mission of the hospital.

Academic Clinical Professionalism Award goes to Feigin

Ralph Feigin, M.D., professor and chair of pediatrics and physician-in-chief of Texas Children's Hospital, has been selected to receive the prestigious Ben and Margaret Love Foundation Bobby Alford Award for Academic Clinical Professionalism.

The award recognizes a BCM physician for professionalism and humanism and the ability to role model these qualities in the practice of medicine. Feigin will receive the award during the White Coat Ceremony Aug. 15.

BCM professors elected to AAP

William Shearer, M.D., professor of pediatrics and chief of allergy and immunology, and Tony Eissa, M.D., professor of medicine, immunology and molecular and cellular biology and director of the Asthma and Allergic Diseases Cooperative Research Center, have been elected as members of the Association of American Physicians.

The AAP was founded in 1885 for "the advancement of scientific and practical medicine." The goals of its members include the pursuit of medical knowledge, and the advancement through experimentation and discovery of basic and clinical science and their application to clinical medicine.
